An affable sort, Barry made friends easily and would often strike up conversations with total strangers. Even after losing his voice to ALS, Barry would grunt and wink his way to new friendships. Bewildering? Yes. Annoying? Indeed.

Do I wish I would have reined in the insults? No… Barry and I believe it is critical to treat close friends poorly, no matter what they’re facing.
